Partnerships.
The Kentucky Theatre has a long track record of supporting nonprofit and community-based organizations. We offer all 501(c)(3) nonprofits a discount on renting our facilities, for example. But sometimes we go a step further, either by planning an event together or by offering our facilities free-of-charge.
If your organization is interested in partnering with us on a film screening, educational event or fundraiser, we would love to hear from you. As a first step, we ask that you review the partnership tips below. Then we ask that you submit our partnership application to give us a better idea of what you have in mind.
Partnership Tips
We are limited in the number of partner events that we can do each year, especially if it involves offering our facilities free-of-charge.
Showing a film as a fundraiser can seem like a great idea, but it may be less successful than you think. Even if we were to waive our rental fee (something that we can rarely do), we must collect a fee for the film’s distributor. Unless you think you can draw several hundred people to a screening, it’s unlikely that you will generate much revenue for your organization. That said, a special screening can be a great way to raise awareness of your organization and its mission.
Film distributors require that we abide by strict rules governing when and for how long we screen their films. At a minumum, distributors require us to show their films on weekends, which is why we almost never rent out the theater or do a partner event on a weekend. And even a mid-week rental or outside event will effect our film programming schedule for an entire week or perhaps longer. For that reason and because our primary mission is to bring the best of cinema to Lexington, we can only do a very limited number of partner events each year.
